PWDs make case for Tejuosho’s appointment as minister

Persons Living with Disability (PWDs) in Lagos State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint Dr. Halimat Tejuosho as Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

According to the PWDs, the vacant position requires an individual, especially a woman, who understands the burden of downtrodden Nigerians, and has empathy for their needs.

They insisted Tejuosho possess the qualities to serve Nigeria better, following her inputs in their lives over the years. “Her efforts towards alleviating the plight of PWDs, and that of her friends, attest to her qualities as an individual who would serve the people better and inculcate in Nigeria the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The PWDs’ recommendation is coming about four months after the former minister, Betta Edu, was suspended for alleged misappropriation.

A member of the group, Bolaji Shonuwe, said they have benefitted from Tejuosho’s humanitarian gestures and want her to replicate such kindness under the Renewed Hope Agenda to many parts of the country.

She added: “Many PWDs have benefitted from her kind gesture because she didn’t limit it to our members in Southwest alone. We appreciate what she has been doing over the years; she is a shoulder to lea n on and she puts smile on our faces every time.

“We belief that when she has the opportunity to do more for the people, especially Nigerians who have suffered any disaster, Dr. Tejuohso will not hesitate to ensure they get all that is needed to meet their needs. So, it is our desire that she takes over the vacant ministerial seat and extend the renewed hope agenda to all Nigerians, especially those in the remote areas.”

Another member, Adeyemi Adeseye, said testimonies from his friends outside Lagos shows the passion Tejuosho has for the people, especially indigent Nigerians.

Adeseye, who is visually-impaired, said they need an individual that understand their plight and can provide the desired solution. “Tejuosho possess these qualities,” he said.

“We are passionately appealing our president to appoint Tejuosho to lead the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. We know what she can do, and we believe she will deliver better than her predecessors.”

Gbolahan Jonah stressed that aside the gestures over the years, ‘Tejuosho is also young and have the strength to pilot the ministry’s affairs towards achieving the goal of the administration’.

It was learnt that Tejuosho recently celebrated her 40th birthday with PWDs and others.
