The Lagos State government has kicked off construction of a 950-metre road in Onishan Street, Ibeju-Lekki.
Intended to improve road networks in the community and reduce travel-time, the project was kicked-off by Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni-Agbaje.
According to Yekinni-Agbaje, since inception of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, ‘there have been deliberate investments in social infrastructure especially in our communities, which is borne out of the desire to ensure even development across the state’.
The aide described the project as a testament and pointer to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s resolve to ensure social, economic and infrastructural development in the state.
He said: “In recent times, upon the approval and directive of Mr Governor, the Office of Rural Development has kicked-off community-based road constructions in Ikorodu and Badagry. We are kicking-off another here in Ibeju-Lekki and, most assuredly, other rural road projects will begin across the state.
“This is majorly to give Lagos State a better outlook and to make life easy for residents of these communities as they commute daily.
“This project is more than just a transportation artery; it is a lifeline that would connect communities in the axis and facilitate ease of doing business, thereby enhancing the quality of lives of residents.”
Lawmaker representing Ibeju-Lekki I in the House of Assembly Mojeed Adebola applauded the efforts of Mr. Governor in approving the project. He, however urged residents and stakeholders to support the contractor, who has been mobilised to site, to ensure seamless work and quick delivery.
Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Are Abdullahi Olowa, also thanked the Governor and the Office of Rural Development for bringing the dividend of democracy to the area. He promised that residents will collaborate with the contractor to ensure safety of the workforce and their properties in the course of the construction.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Rural Development, Babatunde Durojaiye, applauded Mr. Governor for his consistent investment in rural infrastructural development. He assured the community members that the government is committed to bringing more infrastructural development to them, and urged them to take ownership of the project by safeguarding the infrastructure.
The 950-metre road will be 7.3 metres wide with drainages and walk-ways, and also solar-powered street lights. The contractor promised that it will be completed in 12 months.
