Youth assembly honours community leader Ojuolape

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has honoured Chairman of Ibigiga Support Group, Ogun State, Ahmed Ojuolape, with the annual Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity.

Speaker of YAN, Tolulope Samuel, said the group was founded in 1997 to create a formidable platform for coordination of awareness, advocacy and historical research for improved leadership, open governance and innovative development of the young generation.

According to him, Ojuolape was chosen for the award because he has demonstrated excellence in his professional career and service to humanity.

He said: “Our awardee has contributed immeasurably towards the economic growth and infrastructural development of Nigeria, doing so with greater efficiency, proficiency, patriotism and dedication.

“He is committed quality service delivery and smooth operation in assignments. For many decades, he has demonstrated rare qualities which have towered him above his peers.

“He is also a man of great intellectual capacity, very brave, composed, highly matured, experienced, efficient and cerebral. These rare attributes are what qualified him for the award.

“He also connotes different things to different people. To the men and women of your generation, you’re a pride and a reputable mentor; to youths, you’re an outstanding role model, a leading light, a shining star and also an asset to humanity.”

According to Samuel, YAN is a coalition of young professionals and politically-conscious youths. He noted that its programmes are majorly focus on education, education and enlightenment of the people for social readjustment, cultural and identity recovery through its ‘omoluabi’ ethos.

“The coalition also aims to reawaken the spirit of youth involvement and participation in every facet of our economic and socio-political life, especially on political decision, security matters, education, community services, democracy and good governance.

“The path we have chosen for ourselves is to impact our society and contribute our quota in rebuilding our peers. We believe that with time, this social crusade shall turn to a national revival in our moral and ethical life if we all unite in turning this vision into reality,” Samuel added.
