Lagos sensitises women-farmers on expansion, productivity

  • Govt to give free farm tools

Lagos State government, through the Office of Rural Development, has promised to provide women-farmers with tools that would help increase their productivity.

Special Adviser to the governor on Rural Development Dr Nurudeen Yekinni-Agbaje made the promise during the 2024 Food and Nutrition Programme to train women-farmers on current best practices in farming.

The workshop was also to equip women-farmers with requisite skills and knowledge needed to improve farming operations in their communities, and to expose them to information that would help them access credit facilities with little interests.

Yekinni-Agbaje applauded the women-farmers for their contribution to the development of agriculture in Lagos, and noted that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has continued to support the efforts farmers, especially by providing them with equipment that would make their operations seamless.

He also assured them that in commemoration of the Year 2024 Food and Nutrition Programme, the Office of Rural Development would embark on a needs-assessment inspection to various farms to determine the equipment needed by women-farmers.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa praised the women for investing their time and resources into agriculture.

She reiterated the importance of women-farmers in the economic development of their communities, especially in balancing farm work with household chores and childcare which can be overwhelming.

Founder of AbanisheLoluwa Farms, Mrs. Modinat Oluwafunke, thanked the ministry for its commitment to seeing women-farmers advance in their operation. She assured the officials that beneficiaries of the workshop would take advantage of the information to improve their farming operations.

President of Farmers Association in Epe Local Government Mrs. Aminat Shade hailed the ministry for galvanising women-farmers and exposing them to opportunities to access credit facilities for their operations.

The event featured presentations from the Ministry of Agriculture and Bank of Industries (BoI) on ways to access loan facilities for agricultural productions.
