Association distances self from planned nationwide protest

The Lagos State Planks and Building Materials Market Association has called on its members and Nigerians to shun the planned nationwide protest and instead give government time to implement its policies.

President of the association Alhaji Lateef Adelodun, who made the appeal, said protest will not solve the country’s problems.

He said: “We should allow the government to focus on lifting Nigerians out of hardship and implementing the promised N70,000  minimum wage. We should also allow it resolve issues in all sectors so that life will improve for Nigerians.

“The United Nations (UN) has warned that some bad actors might hijack the protests, similar to how Ugandan President Museveni cautioned his people against demonstrations. The recent events in Kenya have not been favorable for its citizens. So we must learn from these situations and allow reason prevail.”

Adelodun however urged the government to do the needful by ensuring the protection of life and property, as well as the provision of basic needs for all, such as good roads, power, school, and health centers.

He also pleaded with government to support the association’s collaboration with the Ministry of Environment on tree planting, especially on empowerment through better equipment for tree planting and seed provision. “If we cut one tree, we should be able to plant 10 as replacement,” he noted.
