All three second-class emirs will be answerable to the Emir of Kano, whose status is first class.

The appointments were made after Governor Yusuf assented to the Kano State Emirates Council Law 2024, which approves the establishment of three second-class emirates in the state.

The law, sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Muhammad Bututu, was passed by the Assembly during a plenary session on Tuesday.

While congratulating the second class emirs, Governor Yusuf urged them to diligently serve humanity as custodians of culture, peace and unity of the people in their respective emirates.

He said: “This development underscores our unwavering commitment to preserving our traditional institutions and cultural heritage, recognising them as essential pillars of peace and heritage conservation.”
