Wife of the Lagos State Governor Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has acknowledged the role of women in nation-building. She noted that women’s significant contributions have positively influenced the country’s economic and political growth.
Mrs. Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at the Year 2024 Muslim Sisters’ Seminar, said the annual gathering has grown into a significant platform for Muslim women to engage, learn, and take actionable steps towards the good of our society. She was represented by wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat.
The governor’s wife highlighted the incredible roles of women in their respective homes, workplace, worship centres among others, and emphasized that women are truly the salt needed to create a balance in this world.
According to her, women generally are catalysts for nurturing, guiding, and reforming future generations.
“Our women are embodiments of love, strength, sacrifice, and courage. The principles and faith imbued by women into the souls of a nation are indispensable for sustainable development,” she noted.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu explained that the programme’s theme, ‘Society on the Brink: Islam to the Rescue’, further underscores the immense potential and responsibilities of women in navigating the complexities of the present contemporary society.
She stressed that the annual seminar also highlights the essence of sacrifice during Eid-el-Adha, which signifies willingness to obey Allah’s command and, most importantly, sensitising Muslim women on contemporary social issues affecting communities, and how to proffer solutions to engender sustainable and positive change.
She urged participants to uphold the values of Islam, embrace societal responsibilities and work towards building a resilient and thriving society.
The Chief Imam of Lekki Branch, Dr. Jamiu Kayode, who spoke on ‘Family Ties; the fundamental link to Nation-Building’, exemplified the importance of building a healthy, united and strong family in line with the Quran. This, he said, will further contribute to the growth and progress of every society.
Dr. Kayode admonished participants to foster family ties and values to salvage the society from the imminent danger.
Highpoint of the event were lectures on keys to facing life challenges as a Muslimaah, role of technology in emerging security issues, family ties; the fundamental link to Nation-Building, health, entrepreneurship, among other topical issues.
The event was also attended by Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Mrs. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, among others.
