Lagos trains 3,748 youths in creative academies

  • More than 5,000 to benefit in three years

More than 3,748 youths in Lagos State have been trained in creative academies in the last one year, and over 5,000 will be trained in the next three years, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka has said.

According to her, the training was in partnership with four creative academies.

She said: “Lagos State government is currently in a partnership with four different creative academies to enhance the capacities of young creative practitioner in Lagos State with the training of over 3,748 Lagos youths, with promise to train additional 5,000 in the next the three years. The academies are Del-York Film Academy, GIDI Creative Academy, Ebony Life Creative Academy and African Academy.”

The commissioner said the ministry, in the last one year, also hosted cultural activities, tourist attractions, trainings, among other initiatives, while collaborating with local and international organisations on the Lagos Theatre Festival, talent hunt, Afropolis Lagos 2024 to promote tourism.

She restated the government’s commitment to the state’s tourism master plan, saying it would continue to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive through collaborations with the private sector for a greater Lagos.

The commissioner also urged stakeholders to collaborate with the government to build a legacy of cultural excellence that will enrich lives, inspire generations and leave an indelible mark on the world.

The ministry is also hoping to deliver the on-going late Lateef Jakande’s statue before the end of June.
