Foundation empowers pupils for exam success

The Girls in Charge Foundation has empowered over 2,000 pupils with tips to succeed in examinations.

Convener of the foundation Victory Oyakhilome noted that the ‘Empower to Succeed Conference 2.0’ was held to provide guidance and support to youths, especially pupils in SS3 preparing for WAEC and JAMB.

She said: “We’re empowering them through mentorship, JAMB scholarships, and teaching leadership and exam preparation skills. We want to continue to empower our generation and the younger ones to show them that we are there for them and we support them.

“The foundation teaches them leadership, prepares their minds so they can make it positively, and then we bring JAMB and WAEC officials to teach them about all that is necessary to prepare for the exams, and correct subject combination.”

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Acting Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Feyisara Alayande, emphasised the importance of youths speaking up and leveraging their community and network.

He admonished the pupils to focus and apply the knowledge gained during their schooling to attain success.

“In Lagos State, we’re equipping our youths with digital skills, entrepreneurship opportunities and development support, ensuring that every young lagosian, regardless of the background, has the resources and mentorship needed to fly in their chosen career.

“There are initiatives in Lagos State that help youths buildup their skills, such as Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), Lagos State Upskill Programme which prepares youths for employment, and Amplifier business clinic,” he noted.

The governor also urged the pupils to aim high in achieving success.

“Don’t let the position you are in define you, make sure you know who you are and go forward in life make sure you keep learning. Youths should take advantage of training programs and mentorship initiatives to prepare themselves for success,” he added.

A pupil of Obele Community Senior High School, David Priscilla, lauded the Foundation for the initiative.

She said: “I am an introvert but speaking at this event has made me change that narrative. This event made me realise that I have to keep pursuing my dreams no matter the obstacles.”

Another pupil of Stadium Senior High School, Ogaa Gabriel, commended the organisers for including boys in the programme.

“Through this programme, I’ve learnt never to give up, procrastinate, and never join bad peers to avoid making bad decisions,” he said.
