Patoranking’s sister, husband died in gas explosion, say Police

Eonyi State have confirmed that a couple, George and Chioma Obasi, died in Abakaliki after a gas explosion in their residence.

It said contrary to rumors of an inverter explosion or dynamite, preliminary investigation shows that the couple died from gas explosion.

Spokesperson of the command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed this while addressing reporters.

“From preliminary investigation, it was confirmed to be a gas explosion. It is suspected that probably there was a gas leakage and they opened the door and maybe a small spark ignited it,” he said.

The late Chioma is said to be the sister of popular musician, Patoranking.

After the explosion, the couple were rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Abakaliki by neighbours where they have been receiving treatment.

However, Chioma succumbed to her injuries and died five days after the incident. Her husband, George also died on Wednesday, according to family sources.

The couple left behind a three-year-old son who was said to be upstairs watching cartoon on his father’s phone when the explosion happened.
