The Lagos Taskforce yesterday paraded four suspects in connection with the August 13 attack on a BRT bus at Orile area of the state.

The suspects are Ibrahim Lawal (35), Abati Daniel (20), Ilesanmi Kazeem (32) and Muhammed Ali (30).

The bus, which was traveling from Mile 2 to Leventis, was approaching the Ore-Ofe Bus Stop on the Orile axis with 35 passengers on board when a large mob suddenly emerged and swarmed on it.

The culprits assaulted passengers, stabbed and robbed them of their valuables.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olusola Oyewole and Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, paraded the suspects at the Safety Arena in Oshodi.

Oyewole said: “The suspects vandalised the BRT bus, attacked the passengers, maimed and robbed them of their valuables.

“The offence, which was carried out in broad day light, is condemnable and the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly after investigation.

“Meanwhile, efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

Akerele said the suspects were arrested around Orile after Ali, who was arrested first, confessed and his confession led to the arrest of the three others.

“In line with the zero tolerance for criminality in the state, I can assure you that we will get others still at large and bring all suspects to justice,” Akerele vowed.

He also assured residents of their safety on all public transportation platforms, saying that all necessary security steps are being taken to protect residents and visitors.

“The government will not stand idly and allow such lawlessness and illicit acts to continue. Residents’ safety remains government’s priority as security agencies are up to the task.

“There is no need for fear, we assure all commuters of their safety while traveling on all public transportation platforms in Lagos State,” Akerele affirmed.
